Growing in our Personal and Pastoral Witness
As pastors, we long to see people who are far from God come to a life-saving faith in Jesus.
Yet according to a 2023 study from Barna Group, only 1% of pastors believe their church is "very effective" at reaching out to unchurched people - down significantly from previous years. The reasons for this decline are complex, but it raises an important question:
What if it starts with us as pastors?
It has often been said that a congregation will reflect the strengths and weaknesses of its leadership. If we lack confidence in our church's ability to engage in evangelistic conversations, is it possible we also lack confidence in our own? Rather than begin with strategy, we want to begin with our own personal and pastoral witness.
Aaron Pierce is the President and CEO of Steiger International, a mission organization that mobilizes followers of Jesus to reach young people who would not walk into a church. In his recent book Not Beyond Reach, Aaron shares practical habits and tools to help followers of Jesus grow in their ability to engage those who are far from God.
We've invited Aaron to speak to us first as pastors, who all have our own personal witness, and then help us think about how we can lead and equip our churches to join us in that mission.
